Options Available
There are many options when deciding on a funeral service. Some people choose a traditional service which may be held in a church, followed by either burial or cremation. Others may prefer the service to be held in a chapel or hall, a graveside service, or perhaps even outside in a garden. We will also discuss who will officiate, and whether you would prefer clergy or a celebrant.
If you have chosen cremation, you may also wish to consider the option of having a private cremation followed by a Memorial Service.

Palliative Care
Occasionally people who are very ill decide they wish to stay at home until they pass away. Planning ahead is very important and providing you have the support of your local health care professionals, we too will do everything we can to assist. It is best to contact us at the time the palliative care staff are engaged in order that we are ready to help when needed.
There are some legal requirements we will discuss with you as part of the preparation.
Arranging a Funeral
If you have just experienced the loss of a loved one, you may need someone to be with you for support. Sometimes there is an element of shock even if you were expecting your loved one to pass away. When you feel comfortable, call us at either our Grenfell (02 6343 2226) or Young (02 6382 5998) offices and we will agree on a time to meet and begin preparations for the type of service you would like.
We will listen carefully and then help guide you through all the steps necessary for the arrangement. This will include any legal requirements. We will also coordinate the transfer of your loved one into our care.
Aspects of a Funeral Service
Before the funeral service
When we first meet, we will together discuss the type of service you would like. We will also talk about viewings, flowers, types of coffins, music, notifications, as well as gathering information for burial applications and registrations with the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Don’t be overwhelmed with so many things to organise because we are here to help.
On the day of the service
By now, we have worked closely with you and will be beside you every step of the way. We will do our best to ensure everything comes together the way you had hoped. Even if something unforeseen happens (we cannot always predict hailstorms), our calm and experienced team will ensure a dignified and fitting farewell.
After the service
No-one really wants to deal with a Funeral Director and it’s not something we choose to do. But it does happen to all of us at sometime and at Penrose Funerals, we value the relationships we form with our families. We are very privileged they have entrusted us to care for their loved ones. Our relationship often continues after the funeral service. We offer a full memorial and headstone service and can also provide guidance and assistance with grief support.
What Do I Need To Know
When you meet with us initially, we will need to make decisions regarding burial or cremation. It is very important to know the wishes of your loved one – had they ever discussed their preference with you?
We will also ask you if you know the Executor of the Will, as this is required for Burial Applications and Applications for Cremation.
Following the burial or cremation, we are required to register the Death with the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
At some stage, we will need to collect the following information:
Date of birth
Place of birth
Marriage details
Details of children including dates of birth
Details of parents, including mothers maiden name
What Does it Cost?
Arranging a funeral service is very personal and costs can vary significantly depending on what is involved. However, at our initial meeting we will provide you with a close estimate based on what is discussed.
There are generally four main costs associated with a funeral. These are:
Professional Service Fees – fees which include the transfer and mortuary care of the deceased, as well as planning and coordination of funeral arrangements.
Coffin or Casket – a very individual choice with prices dependant on construction, colour, quality, finish and style.
Cemetery or Cremation Fees – as set by the individual cemeteries and crematoria.
Disbursements – these are the costs that we pay on your behalf and include things like notifications in the paper or on the radio, clergy and church costs, flowers, music, catering, cremation urns.
